Skateboarding.3D

For those of you who know me, you'll know I'm obsessed with all things skate-culture. From cult-classic films like Beautiful Losers and hard-hitting modern documentaries like Skateistan to the many books that showcase the evolution of skateboarding throughout the last four decades - I'm into it all. I even dress pretty much like a (ever-so-slightly more refined and womanly) 12-year-old skater boy. Having said that, in all of the skate paraphernalia I've immersed myself in over the years, never before have I seen a project as unique and interesting as Skateboarding.3D by Sebastian Denz.
Denz, a photographer and avid skateboarder himself, along with a custom-made camera, embarked on a trip documenting some of Europe's best skaters - resulting in this very publication. In this format, the already striking images of skaters in their natural environments are intensified, it literally brings another dimension to this art form and immerses the reader in a world of halfpipes, backyards and bowls.

The concept itself seems simple enough - we've all seen a 3D movie, or read a comic strip with those kitsch little blue-red glasses - it left me wondering why a book like this hadn't been created before. It's photography with an added depth, a book you feel like you're living within. This book is a must-see, whether you're interested in the skating world or not (This is officially backed-up by the "oohs" of 5+ colleagues when I passed it around the office) and if you're into skating, well, this is an absolutely essential addition to your collection.

Skateboarding.3D by Sebastian Denz is published by Prestel and available for purchase now.
